Previously, only the regular season schedule was announced. That schedule, which begins in Cincinnati and ends against Houston at home, can be viewed here. The Spring Training schedule is also available. The Mets will open against the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale, FL on Feb 25th and end the their schedule on April 2nd against the Orioles at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie. Today, however, the Mets announced that they will be playing two exhibition games for charity on April 3rd AND 4th at CitiField. This will be the first time fans will be able to view a game at the new stadium. According to MLB.com, tickets will be available at a discounted rate and be available in the next few weeks. The Mets will donate net ticket-sale proceeds from those two games to the Police Athletic League and other area charities. Credit: Mets.com |

Article: Collapses Have David Ready to Explode in '09 |

There's a cool new addition to David Wright's Flatiron District condo - a saltwater fish tank that David and his mom, Elisa, set up last weekend. There's also going to be a new addition to his game next spring.
Wright is working hard this offseason to add more explosiveness, which would translate into more stolen bases and him being stronger down the stretch. The Mets' collapse in each of the last two seasons has not been easy to deal with, but Wright is attacking the problem the only way he knows how: by working hard to improve on his shortcomings. "This winter there's been a desire, a passion to get into the gym as soon as possible and to get back to the cages because just like last offseason, the way the season ends it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth," Wright said. |

David Wright to play in World Baseball Classic |

Team USA has heard the wakeup call and actually will try to win the World Baseball Classic next March, not just show up and put on a glorified All-Star exhibition to sell some cool jerseys, an approach that left it ill-prepared for any success in 2006. The new attitude begins with the right man to manage the team, former major league and Olympic team manager Davey Johnson. Think Johnson, for instance, is broken up about Alex Rodriguez switching teams to play for the Dominican Republic? Think again. "I want a guy who wants to play for us," Johnson said at this week's winter meetings. "If someone is even hinting that they want to go to another team, he's not on my list." Johnson, who managed four teams during a 14-year career in the majors and who led Team USA to a bronze medal at the Beijing Games this summer, didn't waste any time replacing Rodriguez. He has already called Mets third baseman David Wright. Because Johnson intends to win the gold medal, and not just run players in and out of games as in an exhibition, he asked Wright, "Are you ready to play nine innings?" Replied Wright, "I'll be ready to go 18 if you want." Credit: Sports Illustrated |

12/11 - What Wright Said... |

(On K-Rod's signing) "I think the numbers speak for themselves but I think he adds confidence and a little swagger to the team," Mets third baseman David Wright said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "He's a guy that has pitched in big playoff situations and has been to where we are trying to go. He has two or three pitches that he can throw in any count for strikes, and gets a ton of strikeouts." |
