The David Wright Foundation was founded
in 2005 by David Wright of the New York Mets. The sole purpose and
mission of the foundation is to provide financial support and raise
awareness for those in need and to financially support other charitable
organizations. The foundation pays special attention to Multiple Sclerosis
and children's causes, and maintains its focus on the New York City
and Norfolk, Virginia metropolitan areas.

Bay Watch has ended; Jason Bay officially a Met! |

I know I'm late to the party, but what kind of webmistress would I be if I didn't at least post about it. I woke up at 7am this morning as our cruise ship pulled into the Port of Miami, fresh off our last stop in Turks and Caicos, and gleefully turned on my cell phone for the first time in eight days! Even better, I was greeted with the news, via TWS's own Andrew, that Jason Bay had signed with the Mets. I'm actually quite happy with the signing, as I never thought Holliday would actually leave St. Louis and a lineup that featured Albert Pujols. For all that money and a perpetual shot at the playoffs, would you? Remember, they got Bay at a relatively decent price in a year without many worthwhile free agents, from an offensive perspective. And honestly, I think Bay will follow in the steps of Carlos Beltran as a guy who was apprehensive in coming to the Big Apple, but turned out to love it. Perhaps, Beltran will help him adjust, as will everyone's BFF, David Wright, and his previously-established buddy, Jeff Francoeur. I'm going to make it known right now that I am of the firm belief that Jason's going to start off slow. Like... .255 slow. But I know he's going to have a good May. Trust me, it's coming. But in the end, we'll all be happy with our acquisition ultimately. And I, for one, will be attending opening day on my birthday to welcome him to Flushing. Will you? Feel free to post comments. |

Everyone's favorite third baseman turns 27 today, so The Wright Stuff would like to wish our namesake a very happy and healthy birthday!
And like last year, we'll be hosting our annual celebration of David Wright's birthday complete with trivia and prizes! 4. David Wright. Yes, it was weird that he only hit 10 home runs in 2009. Weird and disconcerting because everything else about Wright's season seemed to be more or less in line with the rest of his career. He hit doubles at the same pace, triples at the same pace, stole bases like he usually does and walked at roughly the same pace. He struck out quite a bit more than usual, which could be a hint, but his average stayed about the same, his on-base percentage stayed about the same, too. He just stopped hitting home runs. It's tempting to say this was because of the Mets' new stadium... and that no doubt played a role. Wright's home run swing fit old Shea Stadium. But the truth is that while he hit only five home runs at home, he also hit only five home runs on the road. It's a strange thing to see home run numbers drop so dramatically for a 26-year-old player, especially a player as good as Wright. So, the question here: When thinking about future performance and such, how much stock do you put into a daunting home run drop? I don't think you can just ignore it. Still, it seems to me that Wright is such a good player in so many ways -- he hits for average, draws walks, steals bases, plays good third base defense (though his defensive numbers did fall off in 2009), and there's reason to believe his home runs will come back. I still think he's a good Hall of Fame bet. I think he'll get there. Credit: Sports Illustrated |

Unfortunately, according to a representative at the David Wright Foundation, there is a good chance there will not be a Do the Wright Thing Gala this year. While the David Wright Foundation is doing well, the current economic climate has impacted some of its sponsors. If anything changes, we will let you know. Stay tuned. |

Tonight, friend of TWS and MetsBlog’s own Regis Courtemanche will be hosting a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society from 7-10 pm at Lansdowne Road, a bar located at 599 10th Avenue in New York City.
The event will coincide with the Mets vs. Braves game and admission is free. There will be drink specials, and a raffle to win items from MeiGray (memorabilia from Shea Stadium), SNY (Mets tickets worth $500), Gary, Keith & Ron, Ommegang Brewery, Blue Smoke, Brooklyn Brewery, Top of the Rock, Chelsea Piers, Louisville Slugger, Trapeze School of NY, Random House, Crunch Fitness, Antonio Prieto Salon, Off The Wagon, NY Shaving Co., Village Pourhouse, Croton Tavern and many more. There is no donation required, but any amount is appreciated. For more on Regis’s ongoing campaign to raise $5,000 before the end of the season. He will be selling tickets for the raffle at the event, and all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. |
