Thanks, Zoe!
Site Notes and News

Hey, everyone!

Sorry that I haven't been updating the sidebar a lot lately, but I'm working on switching hosts and it's pain. In addition, my internet at school is less than cooperative.

There also hasn't been much news as of late to post in the newsfeed, but with the season rapidly approaching, that is sure to change in the next week.

I will be blogging live from Citi Field on Saturday, when I attend the exhibition game in honor of my birthday. Very exciting!

Andrew will be attending Opening Day at Citi Field (lucky! I have classes!) and I'll try to get him to text me updates from the game.

Anyway, I'll be getting back to a regular update schedule very soon!

Let's go Mets!

NY Mets are whole again

J. J. Putz and Carlos Delgado had last seen each other a week ago, from a distance of 60 feet 6 inches. Putz, pitching for the United States, struck out Delgado in the eighth inning of a World Baseball Classic elimination game against Puerto Rico. As they got reacquainted Tuesday morning in the Mets's clubhouse, Delgado was still thinking about that at-bat.

"My teammate throws me a 2-1 split?" said Delgado, shaking his head, as Putz walked past. "When a guy throws 96?"

Putz quipped, "I got lucky."

No organization sent more players to the Classic than the 16 the Mets sent. On Tuesday, they welcomed their final three participants, Putz, David Wright and Francisco Rodrguez, back to camp with the lively banter and playful teasing that had been lacking at points during the last three weeks. At one end of the clubhouse, Wright ribbed Jose Reyes about the Dominican Republic"™s two surprising losses to the Netherlands.

"If I had a Netherlands jersey, I would have worn it," Wright said.

Rolling his eyes, Reyes turned to Jose Valentn...

Hey, everyone! Due to a issue we're having with our host, one which is minor and will be resolved quite shortly, I cannot update any of the sidebar content.

It will be fixed in the next few days, not to worry. Just wanted to keep you all informed!

ARTICLE: David Wright Okay After Foul Ball (FULL update)
Posted on 20 Mar 2009 by Danielle
A cracked big toe didn't wipe the smile off David Wright's face or diminish his enthusiasm for the World Baseball Classic.

The Mets All-Star third baseman fouled a ball off his left foot in Team USA's 10-6 loss to Venezuela on Wednesday night at Dolphin Stadium.

The ball plunked Wright's big toe, cracking the nail and causing a great deal of discomfort and concern for a team riddled with ailments.

"A little sore. I'll be all right," said Wright, maintaining a smile and sense of humor for reporters afterward. "No problems. Fouled a ball off. Cracked a toenail. Other than that, things are good."

Wright maintained a positive outlook and gutted it out, playing nine innings on a sloppy, wet field on a night Team USA didn't have any reserves to replace him. Earlier in the day, the squad lost the services of first baseman Kevin Youkilis, who is done for the tournament because of a left ankle injury.

Wright wrapped the toe in between innings, and afterward, he was examined by Marlins physician Dan Kanell. An X-ray was taken and it came back negative, which was the best news he heard all night...

Web Update
Posted on 19 Mar 2009 by Danielle

There has been a massive update of the "Did you know..." section of the site. Thanks to a chat transcript I stumbled upon from 2005, a lot more information has been posted.

In addition, TWS's Flickr album has been update and photos from last night's game has been published. Unfortunately the rain made it hard to take shots, but I took as many as I could.

AND make sure to keep posted for an opening day contest coming up VERY soon! Get your cameras, graphic design programs, and artistic skills ready! There are tee-shirts up for grab.

Speaking of those shirts... you can get any/all of the tee-shirts to benefit the David Wright Foundation here. All shirts range from $12.99 - 19.99.

If anyone is going to be in California for the WBC and will be taking pictures, please feel free to send them over to us. We'll credit you!

Wright's Bat Headed to Cooperstown
Posted on 19 Mar 2009 by Danielle

David Wright's bat is going to the Hall of Fame.

The one he used to deliver the game-winning hit in the U.S. victory over Puerto Rico Tuesday night in the World Baseball Classic will be displayed at the Hall in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The bat will be part of a larger WBC exhibit.

No word yet on whether the Hall will also display a fragment of the toenail Wright cracked when he fouled a ball off his left foot in the first inning Wednesday night against Venezuela.

Wright and the U.S. will face the winner of Thursday night's Japan-Korea game in the WBC semifinals in Los Angeles Sunday.

Mets Comment on David Wright's Big Hit
Posted on 19 Mar 2009 by Danielle

Ryan Church:

"We're going to do that in October. David does that in the World Series, I'm gonna tackle him, bring him down."

"There is some extra excitement in here."

Howard Johnson:

"We're happy for him, and I think it means a little more because it is David. We know how good he must feel."

"They want to drive in the run. David has that in him. He's not trying to be the hero. He just has confidence that he can get it done. ... I love what he did. That's a confidence builder."

Ramon Castro:

"But if we had to lose, I'm glad for David."

Nelson Figueroa:

"For him, it was huge."

Jerry Manuel:

"But the big thing is that it got down and got the runs home. He found a way."
