| 11/24/08 - As We Say Goodbye to 2008... |
Hey everyone, week two of the hot stove report is here. As we say goodbye to 2008, I thought it would be fun to look forward to what the team still needs to do before opening day 2009. Here are the 3 things that I would like to see Omar get done to fill the remaining holes in the 2009 Mets. 1. Starting Pitcher While the Mets are believed to be in "deep negotiations" with Lowe, they need to have a back up. They should definitetly target Lowe first, but they should still be in contact with Oliver Perez. If they add one of these two, they should still go after a 5th starter. I don't feel comfortable just handing Niese the spot. Bring in a veteran like a Tim Redding or a Pedro Martinez to compete with Niese for the spot. 2. Outfield Bat I want Manny! I wish that ownership would give Omar the ok and let him go out and get Manny. The guy would add a huge bat to the lineup. I think that Manny is very doubtful for the Mets. They still need to sign a bat for the lineup. Maybe Pat Burrel or Adam Dunn? I'm still ok with the Tatis/Murphy platoon, but Manny would be pretty amazing. 3. 2nd Base Can they just trade Castillo for anything?!? I would love to see Hudson at 2nd base on opening day, but I have a feeling that Castillo is here to stay. Met fans would love the news that Castillo is out and Hudson is in, but the odds of this happening seem very remote.
